THE BRAND
HEMPER
Hemper focuses on providing innovative and regenerative solutions to the challenges of today’s textile industry. Inspiring a generation that demands sustainable and respectful consumption with their business model.
They are social and environmental activists born in the 1990s.In 2015 they went to Nepal for the first time as social workers after the earthquake in the spring of that year.
During the trip they met a small community of hemp artisans, who were the main inspiration for what is now Hemper.
Since then they have continued to travel to Nepal. Deepening relations with and between producers. Trying to reincorporate fibres and techniques that are hardly used in the industry: natural dyeing, the handmade loom… In a learning process that is what they understand as the current sustainability: a constant movement.
Over the last few years, the word sustainability has become the most abused label in the fashion industry, to the point of losing practically all meaning. Hemper is a project that goes beyond sustainability:
They have built an innovative ecosystem around unique artisanal fabrics, natural dyes and local partnerships based on respect and fairness, with the aim of adding their grain of sand to the Slow fashion revolution.
All their products are handmade, recovering traditional techniques on the verge of disappearing. This is only possible thanks to a solid and long-lasting relationship with local artisan communities, built on respect for the work and times of their collaborators.
Hemper is the story of a journey in search of the perfect balance between activism, culture and tradition. A journey that prioritises the footprint over the destination. A journey whose intention is to go beyond the boundaries of fashion and meet people, places and projects with the potential to change our perspective completely.
Welcome to the regenerative journey.
